Abir is a queer, Muslim writer from East London. Initially inspired by the work of Roald Dahl, Abir wanted to create escapist stories that he could immerse himself into. As a teenager he'd found himself reimagining the stories he saw on screen, before realising that his path lied in telling his own. Abir fell in love with TV by idolising the (now not-so) enviable lives in '90210', immersing himself in the adventures of 'Doctor Who', and relating a little too well to the characters in 'Glee'.

Growing up in a conservative Muslim household, Abir went to the Mosque everyday after school to study the Qur'an. To his fellow pupils, he was a quiet, determined student, but inside he always held a secret - he was wearing a 'High School Musical' shirt under his jubba.

Abir always loved stories about people not sticking to the status quo, as he could never fully relate to the boisterous boys or the feminine girls he grew up befriending. His upbringing in East London schools and Mosques are still a huge part of who he (and is writing) is today, as his scripts focus on religion, queerness, family, masculinity and coming of age, blending his experiences with both heart and humour.

When he isn't writing, Abir enjoys binge watching the latest TV shows and films (with an extreme fondness for musicals), as well as the theatre and reading.

His career started in 2015 when he took on an apprenticeship at VICE, before completing a degree in Digital Television Production (1:1, BA Hons). He spent a few years assisting on various film and television sets, as well as working closely with Directors, Producers and Contributors in Factual films. In 2020 he worked as a Drama Development Trainee at STV Drama, working alongside Writers and the Development team in Writersrooms whilst reading an abundance of scripts. In February 2022 he began assisting the Film & TV department at David Higham Associates, and he now assists Vicki Thomson as a Casting Assistant.

Abir's writing made the top 10 shortlisted nominees for the All3Media New Script Award at the New Voice Awards 2022. His debut short play 'MY SON IS GAY' premiered at the Kahani Arts Festival 2021, whilst his second short play 'BHAIJAAN' will be put on by both Hideout Theatre and Universal Arts in July 2023.  and he is currently working on multiple personal projects including TV pilots and short films.
